About :)
Me with a lot of make up on, no glasses and a big ass wig
I’m Alice Gillette (she/her), an artist, director and teacher in Denver, Colorado (if that’s okay) .
As a producer and performer, I’ve been so lucky to perform across the United States. With my friends, I created and produced Idiot Theatre, Denver's first indie clown show, which ran from 2022 to 2024 at comedy clubs across the city.
The show received accolades from local press outlets for its "startling yet goofy" characters . We also got kicked out of one theater for smearing hummus on ourselves for the sake of a bit (we did clean this up afterwards).
At the moment, my approach to character and clown explores themes of fatalism, patriarchy, and upward mobility. I’m looking through this lens right now with my character Meat Show: a high-value man who’s a paradox of strength and vulnerability. Overtime, my portrayal of Meat Show has garnered acclaim from critics who’ve described him as “hilarious and hard-hitting” (Out Front Magazine) and “fun and bizarre” (Denver Westword).
My first solo show, Meat Show in Space, debuted it’s first iteration in June 2025 at the Denver Fringe Festival. It was immediately highlighted as, “a standout example of the festival’s signature blend of absurdity” by Denver Westword when it premiered.
Some audiences say Meat Show in Space “masterfully delivers complex, insightful themes in a delightfully dadaist package” and label it as “a one-of-a-kind, must-see show”. Others have called it “boring” and have asked me to “get a mental evaluation please”.
Being a woman in person and on the internet is an immensely rewarding experience :) <3
In addition to my performance work, I teach clown classes for adults and lead creative process workshops for performing artists in Denver. I like to emphasize play, chance and vulnerability as tools all of us can use to create grounded and profound work.
When I’m in Denver, I also host Uncanny Valley, a free monthly clown jam at Denver’s Chaos Bloom Theater.
PS - Was this bio okay? No worries, if not!
