Pair Share

(Loosely based off of Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process)

Directions

  1. Between the both of you, learn who’s birthday is first this year (share the month/day, not the year).

  2. The “oldest” person goes first and asks the “youngest” person the 3 questions below in order.

  3. When the “older” person is finished asking questions, switch roles. The “youngest” person asks the “oldest” all 3 questions.

Question One:

Tell your scene partner:

  • one moment from the performance that was:

    • meaningful, evocative, interesting, exciting, memorable or striking.

    • Example: “One moment from your performance that was [exciting] was when you ________.

Question Two:

Asking an open-ended question about a specific thing. Think of a memorable part of the performance and formulate a question like this one:

  • “What ideas guided your choices about _____?”

Question Three:

Ask your scene partner to think about their future work as an artist:

  • If you were going to perform this bit at a show and you were given another week of rehearsal, what would you work on?”
